Summary

Lamar Elementary is a public elementary school located in The Woodlands, Texas, serving grades PK-4 with a student population of 731. It is part of the Conroe Independent School District, which is ranked 205 out of 961 school districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lamar Elementary has maintained a consistent 4-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past several years, ranking between 560 and 1090 out of over 4,500 Texas elementary schools. The school's performance has been relatively stable, with its ranking fluctuating within the top 25% of Texas elementary schools. However, Lamar's student performance on STAAR tests is generally on par with or slightly below the Conroe ISD and Texas state averages, with some exceptions. For example, in 3rd and 4th grade STAAR Reading, Lamar's proficiency rates are lower than the district and state averages, and in 3rd and 4th grade STAAR Math, Lamar's proficiency rates are closer to the district average but still below the state average.

Interestingly, the nearby Ride Elementary and David Elementary consistently outperform Lamar Elementary on STAAR assessments, with proficiency rates often 10-20 percentage points higher in reading and math. These high-performing schools also have lower percentages of economically disadvantaged students, suggesting a potential correlation between socioeconomic status and academic achievement. Lamar Elementary should focus on addressing the performance gaps among its various student subgroups to ensure more equitable outcomes.

Open Quote My daughter attended Lamar for two years simply because we could not afford another placement. The education is one size fits all and the children are CONSTANTLY reminded about the STAAR tests throughout the year. It is well known that the teachers and PTO have friction with the principal and that the students are frightened of her. Children are not allowed to use the bathroom during lunch and if they do are penalized by losing five minutes of playground time. During our years at Lamar I was a frequent volunteer and cringed at all they yelling from the specialist teachers as well as anyone on duty during lunch. Anything over a murmur and they are chastised and told they must eat in silence. If your child already attends this school you may be surprised about what they have to say once you start asking questions. Close Quote
