Summary

Lumberton Intermediate in Lumberton, TX, serves 987 students in grades 3 through 5 and is part of the Lumberton Independent School District (Isd), a district ranked in the top 25% of Texas. This school is a steady, mid-tier performer, consistently earning 3-star ratings and ranking in the 58th percentile statewide in 2025-2026. While nearby schools like Evadale Elementary (81st percentile) and Homer Dr Elementary (0th percentile) represent extremes, Lumberton Intermediate offers a reliable middle ground. It also stands out for its efficiency, spending significantly less per student ($8,032) than many peers, including higher-performing Evadale Elementary ($12,683).

A major strength is science: 5th-grade proficiency reached 40.19% in 2024-2025, well above the state average (29.57%) and dramatically higher than nearby schools like Guess Elementary (13.54%) and Homer Dr Elementary (4.94%). The school also excels with its Gifted and Talented program, which historically ranked in the 100th percentile statewide. Additionally, English Language Learners have seen a remarkable turnaround, jumping from the 38th percentile in 2023-2024 to the 77th percentile in 2025-2026, suggesting recent interventions are working well.

However, there are areas of concern. Math proficiency has declined, with 5th-grade scores dropping from 52% in 2022-2023 to 42.48% in 2025-2026, now below the state average. The school also shows a persistent gender gap, serving male students better (62nd percentile) than female students (53rd percentile). Notably, White students rank in the 25th percentile statewide, a surprising weakness given the school's overall performance. Compared to the nearby Beaumont Independent School District (Isd), where schools have free/reduced lunch rates of 80-95% and rank in the bottom 1-15%, Lumberton Intermediate (43% free/reduced lunch) represents a higher-opportunity environment with solid, if not spectacular, results.

Open Quote The administration is more concerned with students being tardy so that they may take every parent to court and earn half of the fined money for their school. The children miss more classtime standing in line to get a tardy slip. The entry and exit to the school is a severe hinderance for parents dropping their children off. This is a small town and all that comes with that definition. The teachers can be very opinionated and if they don't like you, your child will suffer. The academics are at least 2 years behind schools of their comparison. Avoid this school at all cost, because it will cost you. Close Quote
