Summary

Lakewood Elementary is a high-performing K-5 school in Belton, TX, serving 572 students within the Belton Independent School District (Isd), and it consistently ranks among the top 10-11% of all Texas elementary schools. This school stands out as a clear academic leader in its area, with a state ranking in the 89th percentile for the 2025-2026 school year, far surpassing nearby schools like Sparta Elementary (67th percentile) and High Point Elementary (13th percentile). With a favorable student-teacher ratio of 13.9 and a low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (18.71%), Lakewood provides a stable, high-quality educational environment that has maintained its excellence for over a decade.

Lakewood’s STAAR test scores are consistently 15-30 percentage points higher than the district average, creating a "Lakewood Premium" where scores are often 50-100% higher than the state average. For example, in 5th Grade Reading, Lakewood scored 83.76% proficient, compared to the next highest nearby school, Charter Oak Elementary, at 63.04%, and the district average of 58.04%. Similarly, 5th Grade Math proficiency was 71.55% at Lakewood versus 56.04% at Sparta and 44.83% district-wide. While the school excels across all subjects, there is a notable dip in 4th Grade Math (56.73% proficient), which, though still strong compared to peers, suggests a potential curriculum transition point.

An interesting finding is Lakewood’s exceptional performance for female students, who ranked in the 95th percentile in 2024-2025, compared to male students at the 84th percentile, a gap that has persisted for three years. Additionally, the school has shown a remarkable "turnaround" for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, jumping from the 52nd percentile in 2023-2024 to the 92nd percentile in 2024-2025, indicating effective targeted support programs. This success, combined with the school’s stable rankings and strong parent community, makes Lakewood a standout in a mid-tier district, offering a reliable, high-achieving environment for families.

Open Quote Ridiculous that this school does not have a proper gym with air conditioning. They spend all their money on IPADS and technology when other areas are lacking. Despite that this is still an above average elementary school Close Quote
