Summary

Worsham Elementary in Houston, TX, is a 1st through 5th grade campus in the Aldine Independent School District (Isd) serving 449 students, with about 89% qualifying for free or reduced lunch, and it has shown a remarkable academic turnaround from the bottom 12th percentile statewide in 2017-2018 to a peak of the 70th percentile in 2023-2024.

Worsham stands out as a clear academic leader in its immediate area, outperforming nearby Aldine schools like Oleson Elementary (21st percentile), Stephens Elementary (19th percentile), and Escamilla Elementary (34th percentile). Its 4th and 5th graders consistently achieve higher proficiency in Math and Reading than the district average, with 4th graders hitting 62% in Reading and 57% in Math in the most recent testing cycle. Notably, Worsham even outperforms Barrick Elementary in the higher-ranked Houston Independent School District (Isd) in 4th-grade Math (57% vs. 40.91%), showing strong results despite being in a lower-performing district. The school is especially effective with students from low-income backgrounds, ranking in the 89th percentile statewide for its work with this group in 2023-2024.

While Worsham’s long-term trend is impressive, recent data shows a slight dip to the 45th percentile, driven by a decline in support for specific student groups like Special Education and English Language Learners. For example, students taking the Spanish STAAR test scored much lower than those taking the English version, with 5th-grade Reading proficiency at just 7.14% in Spanish compared to 48.65% in English. The school’s per-student spending ($13,403) is higher than some Aldine peers but lower than the charter Idea Hardy Academy ($14,103), suggesting Worsham uses its resources efficiently to drive achievement. This is a school with a strong foundation and a clear focus on improvement, making it a compelling option for families in the area.

Open Quote This school has taught my kids to love school again. Humble ISD broke my kids spirit and Worsham put them back together. My son with Autism could not even read or write when he left Humble ISD. Thanks to Mrs Lindly, Mrs Coleman, Mrs Bruce my boy was reading in less than 2 months. He is even doing Multiplication, Mrs Coleman and this school of dedicated teachers are amazing. Weve been to 3 schools in 4 years 2 in Humble/Atascocita but Worsham is Superior. It feels like home, they treat everyone like family. I am so grateful EVERY single day we found this school! Close Quote
