Summary

Sst Discovery is a public charter elementary school in San Antonio, TX, serving 508 students from Pre-K through 7th grade as part of the high-performing School Of Science And Technology Discovery district, which ranks in the 88th percentile statewide. This school stands out as the highest-ranked option in its immediate area, outperforming nearby schools like Driggers Elementary and Powell Elementary, which rank in the bottom 30th percentile. Sst Discovery has shown a remarkable turnaround from a pandemic-era low, climbing from the 27th percentile in 2020-2021 to its current 55th percentile ranking, demonstrating strong leadership and effective recovery efforts.

One of the school's most impressive strengths is its exceptional support for students from low socio-economic backgrounds, with nearly 70% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. In the 2024-2025 school year, Sst Discovery ranked in the 73rd percentile for serving these students, earning a 4-star rating—a stark contrast to surrounding schools that struggle to move the needle for this demographic. The school also excels with English Language Learners, consistently ranking in the 69th percentile, and offers advanced math opportunities, with 85% of students passing the Algebra I End-of-Course exam, nearly double the state average. Additionally, Sst Discovery maintains smaller class sizes with a student-teacher ratio of 13.2, compared to 22.3 at Idea Ingram Hills Academy, allowing for more individualized attention.

Despite these strengths, Sst Discovery has a clear area for improvement in mathematics, where all grade levels from 3rd through 7th scored below the state average in the 2025-2026 school year, while reading scores consistently exceeded state averages. The school also shows some volatility in its Gifted and Talented program, which dropped from a 90th percentile ranking in 2022-2023. Notably, Sst Discovery achieves these strong outcomes while spending just $11,054 per student—less than nearby charters like Bexar County Academy ($14,124) and The Gathering Place ($12,928)—making it a high-value option for families seeking a school that effectively supports diverse learners in a science and technology-focused environment.

Open Quote Terrible experience for my stepson. He was halfway through first grade and could not read or write but was making straight a’s and in GT at SST. After a year of instruction at a decent school he is reading at a fifth grade level and his handwriting is improving. I Close Quote

Open Quote Worse experience of my life and for my son. Super emotional teacher and special needs teacher , so much she hung up with me [email protected] I was concerned my son was left alone for 28 mins after school when she should’ve been in tutoring. My facebook post had several complaints by other parents. They didn’t even try to console me after they drop the ball. Close Quote
