Summary

Sunset Elementary School serves 616 students in grades PK–5 in Brentwood, TN, and is part of Williamson County Schools, one of Tennessee's highest-performing districts. Sunset has been a 5-star school for over a decade, ranking 57th out of 1,019 Tennessee elementary schools in 2025–2026 (94th percentile). However, it sits in an exceptionally competitive cluster of district peers — five of six nearby elementaries, including Clovercroft Elementary School and Edmondson Elementary School, rank higher statewide.

Math is Sunset's clear academic strength, with 79.5% proficiency in 2025–2026 — above the district average and nearly double the state average. The school has made a strong math leap since 2023–2024. English Language Arts (68.5%) and science (72.7%) trail district averages, and the biggest red flag is 4th-grade ELA, where only 66.3% of students are proficient — 10.6 points below the district. The gap to nearby Clovercroft Elementary School is striking: 14.7 points in math, 18.2 in ELA, and 14.5 in science, despite both schools sharing the same district.

Attendance is a strength, with chronic absenteeism at 8.1% in 2021–2022 — well below district and state rates. Sunset spent $14,059 per student in 2024–2025, the highest among all nearby same-district schools, though higher spending doesn't translate to higher scores. Student subgroup outcomes are generally strong, with special education students ranking in the 85th–89th percentile statewide. Overall, Sunset is an excellent school that has figured out math growth; the clearest opportunity for improvement is raising 4th and 5th grade literacy to match its strong math performance.

Open Quote This is our first year at Sunset and our kindergartner is doing great. Her teacher is fantastic. All the teachers are, and the substitutes too! Administration is top notch, PTO keeps everyone informed and they are so organized. I feel like she is in a very good place and am so happy she is a part of Sunset. Close Quote

Open Quote Sunset is an incredible school. They have an excellent principal and administration, and the PTO has got to be at the top in the state. There is a huge amount of parental involvement in this school, which certainly complements the staff. The teachers are empowered to do what is best for their kids and allowed to be creative. I highly recommend Sunset! Close Quote
