Summary

Ramer Elementary School is a rural PK–8 school in Ramer, Tennessee, serving 355 students in the McNairy County Schools district, which is ranked 92nd out of 141 Tennessee districts. Ramer's own 2025-26 state ranking places it at the 47th percentile (536 out of 1,019 schools), making it a middle-of-the-pack school statewide. Its ranking has been volatile over the past decade: it peaked at the 72nd percentile in 2016-17, dipped to the low-40s in 2022-23 and 2023-24, improved to the 59th percentile in 2024-25, then settled back to 47th percentile this year.

One of Ramer's standout strengths is its work with economically disadvantaged students. The school ranks in the 92nd percentile statewide for effectiveness with low socioeconomic status students in 2025-26 (5 stars), up dramatically from the 53rd percentile just two years ago. Ramer also excels in mathematics: all-grades math proficiency is 47%, above both the district (39.6%) and state (43%) averages, and trailing only Michie Elementary (49.5%) among nearby schools. Fifth grade math is particularly strong at 67.9%, versus 47.4% statewide. Chronic absenteeism is another positive — at 14.0%, it is below the district (16.8%) and state (18.3%) averages, and much better than nearby Selmer Elementary (23.8%) and Pickwick Southside School (26.3%). Ramer also spends more per student ($14,656) than fellow McNairy County schools like Adamsville Elementary ($11,501) and Selmer Elementary ($13,201).

The school's weaknesses are equally clear. Social studies is Ramer's most persistent challenge, with 42.9% proficiency versus 52.7% for the district and 51.4% for the state. The 6th grade social studies result is especially stark at just 18.8% proficient, compared to 50.7% statewide — the largest subject-area gap in the data. Sixth grade appears fragile across several subjects: math dips to 31.3% and ELA to 25.0%, before recovering in 7th and 8th grades. Still, Ramer has shown real momentum in math and ELA over the past three years, and with above-average spending and strong low-SES results, it has a solid foundation to build on as it works to close the social studies gap.
