Summary

Fairview Elementary School serves 323 students in grades PK–5 in Maryville, TN, as part of Blount County Schools, located in a competitive area that includes several higher-performing Maryville City and Alcoa City schools within a few miles.

Fairview was a strong performer for three consecutive years, earning 4-star ratings and ranking in the 71st–78th percentile statewide from 2022–23 through 2024–25. But in 2025–26, the school dropped sharply to the 39th percentile (2 stars), with proficiency falling in every subject. Math remains a relative strength at 44.8% proficient, slightly above the state average, but ELA (35.3%) and science (40.3%) now trail both district and state averages. The most alarming figure is 5th-grade ELA, where only 25% of students are proficient — far below the district (41.7%) and state (42.7%). Science proficiency fell nearly 20 points in a single year. Chronic absenteeism is also a concern at 18.1%, the highest among nearby schools and roughly double the rate at Foothills Elementary (10.3%), which sits just over a mile away and ranks 32nd in the state.

There are bright spots worth noting. Female students have consistently ranked in the 78th–82nd percentile, and special education students improved to the 73rd percentile in 2024–25. Fairview also outperforms some same-district peers in math, including Union Grove Elementary School (34.4%) and Montvale Elementary School (33.6%). Per-student spending of $13,568 is also higher than that of Middlesettlements School ($12,504) and Carpenters Elementary School ($12,353), both of which outperform Fairview academically. Given Fairview's history of 4-star ratings, this school has proven it can do much better — the focus now should be on reducing absenteeism, addressing the 5th-grade literacy gap, and stabilizing science instruction.
