Summary:

Clinton City Schools, a 4-star rated district in Clinton, Tennessee, ranked 32nd of 141 districts statewide, serves 963 students across three elementary schools — Clinton Elementary School (K-6), South Clinton Elementary School (K-6), and North Clinton Elementary School (PK-5).

South Clinton Elementary is the district's current leader, ranking 227th of 1,019 schools with a 78th-percentile rank and a 4-star rating. It posts the strongest test scores in math (55.6%), ELA (57.8%), and science (52.6%), and made remarkable year-over-year gains of +8.2 points in ELA and +20.2 points in social studies. Clinton Elementary, the largest school, is the social studies powerhouse with 82.5% proficiency — 31 points above the state — and the lowest chronic absenteeism rate at 10.2%. However, its overall ranking has slipped from the 84th percentile in 2023-24 to the 68th percentile in 2025-26. North Clinton Elementary is the district's greatest concern: the lowest rank (58th percentile), the highest chronic absenteeism at 25.2%, and the highest per-student spending at $14,957, yet its ELA proficiency fell 13.1 points and it is the only school below the state average in science.

District-wide, social studies is a standout strength at 80.8% proficiency versus the state average of 51.4%, and 6th graders generally outperform 3rd and 4th graders in science and social studies. Chronic absenteeism clearly separates the schools: Clinton Elementary (10.2%) and South Clinton (11.4%) are well below the state average of 18.3%, while North Clinton's 25.2% rate is the district's most urgent issue. Notably, spending does not align with results — North Clinton spends the most per student yet performs the weakest, while Clinton Elementary spends the least and outperforms it in every available subject. For parents, South Clinton offers the strongest overall academic profile, Clinton Elementary combines excellent social studies and attendance with a concerning downward trend, and North Clinton needs focused attention on attendance and academic consistency.
