Cheatham County Schools operates six elementary schools serving grades PK/K through 4th grade, enrolling about 2,184 students across a mix of small towns and rural communities west of Nashville. While the district itself earns a 2-star rating and ranks in the 46th percentile statewide, its elementary schools collectively outperform those district averages, with four of the six schools ranking in the top 40% of Tennessee elementary schools.

Kingston Springs Elementary is the clear academic leader, ranking in the 87th percentile statewide and posting the highest proficiency rates in every subject (69.7% math, 60.6% ELA, 62.9% science). Pleasant View Elementary offers the best value: it spends the least per student ($10,602) yet still ranks in the 69th percentile and improved dramatically year over year in math and ELA. Pegram Elementary Fine Arts Magnet School is the most improved, jumping from the 37th to 58th percentile with a 14.3-point gain in ELA, while maintaining the district's lowest chronic absenteeism rate at 7.7%. On the other end, Ashland City Elementary is the area of concern, ranking in the 36th percentile with proficiency rates below district and state averages in all subjects, a 3rd-grade math proficiency of just 25.0%, and a chronic absenteeism rate of 23.1%—the highest in the district by far.

Notably, per-student spending has little relationship to outcomes: Pegram spends the most ($15,812) but posts only mid-tier scores, while Pleasant View spends the least but performs well. Chronic absenteeism tracks closely with low performance, and a consistent grade-level pattern shows 4th-grade proficiency far exceeding 3rd-grade proficiency at several schools—especially East Cheatham, where 4th-grade science proficiency reaches an impressive 80.6% despite a weak 3rd-grade showing. Even with Kingston Springs slipping slightly from its prior 90th-percentile ranking, Cheatham County's elementary schools represent a two-tier system: the high-performing cluster of Kingston Springs, Pleasant View, East Cheatham, and West Cheatham, versus Ashland City as the clear outlier, with Pegram improving quickly in between.
