Summary:
Groton Area School District 06-6 has three schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12: Groton Area Elementary (PK–5), Groton Area Middle (6–8), and Groton Area High (9–12). The clearest overall strength is that all three schools’ reported 2025–2026 results were above their respective state averages: elementary results were 69% in ELA and 69% in math, middle school results were 58% and 52%, and high school results were 67% in ACT ELA, 53% in ACT math, and 70% in ACT science.
Groton Area Elementary stands out among the schools reporting all-grades Smarter Balanced results, scoring 19 percentage points above the state in ELA and 25 points above in math. Groton Area Middle is lower on those all-grades results, but still exceeded state averages by 8 points in both subjects; its grade 8 results were an exception, falling 2 points below the state in ELA and 3 points below in math. Groton Area High also had strong results against the state, including a 25-point advantage in ACT science, and reported a 100% graduation rate versus 88% statewide. SchoolDigger ranked the elementary school 15th of 203 schools statewide (93rd percentile) and the high school 5th of 130 (96th percentile) in 2025–2026; the middle school was at the 73rd percentile.
Recent all-grades trends are positive overall: from the prior reported year, math results rose 5 points at the elementary school and 4 points at the middle school; middle ELA rose 1 point, while elementary ELA was nearly unchanged. Both schools widened their leads over the state in ELA and math. SchoolDigger rankings also improved from 49th to 15th for the elementary school and from 28th to 5th for the high school, while the middle school’s percentile stayed relatively steady, moving from 71st to 73rd. For context, 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 23% at the elementary school, 19% at the middle school, and 12% at the high school; student-teacher ratios ranged from 12.5:1 at the high school to 13.6:1 at the elementary school. Because the schools serve different grades and the high school reports a different assessment, their scores are not direct school-to-school comparisons.
