Summary:

Logan Elementary is a public elementary school in Columbia, South Carolina, serving 233 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Richland 01 school district, which has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Logan Elementary has shown steady academic improvement, moving from the bottom 20% of South Carolina elementary schools in 2015-2016 to the middle 50% in 2023-2024. The school's performance on state assessments is generally higher than the Richland 01 district average, particularly in English Language Arts, where 5th-grade students had 60.8% proficiency compared to 45.8% for the district and 55.7% for the state. The school also benefits from a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 9.9 to 10.5 students per teacher, and higher per-student spending compared to the district average.

While Logan Elementary stands out among its Richland 01 peers, some nearby schools, such as A.C. Moore Elementary and East Point Academy, have outperformed it on state assessments. Additionally, Logan Elementary's performance for certain student subgroups, such as female students and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, has been more mixed, with rankings in the middle to bottom half of the state. Nevertheless, the school's overall academic progress and strong mathematics performance make it a noteworthy option for families in the Columbia area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter started this year and I'm amazed at the growth I've seen in her during the first half of the school year. The school is very challenging. The arts program is probably tops in the state. The choirs are better than many high schools in the State. All school staff and teachers are very accessible and willing to put in the extra effort to see their students excel. In 5 years this school will be in the top 10 in the state. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
