This school is in the middle of a remarkable turnaround. In the most recent school year, Gray Court-Owings jumped from the 13th to the 31st percentile in statewide rankings, earning a 2-star rating. The gains are widespread: 3rd grade math proficiency soared from 37.9% to 62.7% (now above the state average), and 3rd grade ELA jumped from 37.8% to 58.7%. Chronic absenteeism was cut in half over two years, dropping from 31.9% to 15.9%, which is well below the state average. The school is especially effective with its economically disadvantaged students, ranking in the 42nd percentile for that subgroup—significantly higher than its overall ranking. Interestingly, male students now outperform female students, a reversal of the typical pattern.
