Summary

Ashley Ridge High in Summerville, SC, is a large, comprehensive public high school serving 2,599 students in grades 9-12 within the Dorchester 02 district, and it has consistently earned 4-star ratings and ranked in the top 20% of South Carolina high schools over the past five years.

Academically, Ashley Ridge stands out dramatically from its immediate peers. In the most recent testing cycle, the school posted proficiency rates that significantly exceed district and state averages across all subjects. Most notably, Algebra 1 proficiency hit 81.81%, which is a remarkable 28 percentage points above the district average and nearly 40 points higher than same-district rivals Fort Dorchester High (43.76%) and Summerville High (42.85%). English 2 is the school's strongest subject at 92.44% proficiency. The school also maintains a strong 91.1% graduation rate, exceeding the state average, and a dropout rate of just 1.0%—less than half the state average. Perhaps most distinctive is the school's exceptional support for military-connected students, ranking 2nd in the state for this subgroup, a significant achievement given the school's proximity to Joint Base Charleston.

While Ashley Ridge achieves top-quartile results with below-average per-student spending ($10,510 compared to $18,411 at West Ashley High), it faces a notable challenge with rising chronic absenteeism, which has climbed to 26.7%—above both district and state averages. This rate is still better than nearby Stratford High (35.9%) and R. B. Stall High (53.9%), but it represents an area for improvement. The school also shows strong and improving performance for Hispanic students (85th percentile) and gifted learners, though multi-racial students have seen a decline in recent rankings. Overall, Ashley Ridge offers an efficient, high-quality education that consistently outperforms its district peers, making it a compelling choice for families in the Summerville area.

Open Quote Ashley Ridge is a great school. We are often viewed by other schools at the one to beat (in everything from sports to acedemics). We have a great faculty that makes sure every individual student's needs are met and that every student enjoys their high school experience. It's a safe and friendly enviorment that makes me wake up each morning WANTING to go to school! I advise any parent looking for a school for their child in the Summerville area to send them here! :) Close Quote
