Summary

William M. Reeves Elementary is a highly-rated PK-5 school in Summerville, SC, serving approximately 930 students within the Dorchester 02 school district. The school has earned a 4-star rating for the past decade and has climbed from the 72nd to the 87th percentile in statewide rankings over the last ten years, making it one of the most improved elementary schools in the region.

What truly sets Reeves apart is its remarkable success with students who are often underserved elsewhere. The school ranks in the top 3% statewide for academic achievement with African American students and in the top 5% for students from low-income backgrounds—an extraordinary accomplishment that speaks to the effectiveness of its instructional approach. This strength is evident across the board: 5th grade math proficiency stands at 77.4%, a stunning 26-point advantage over the district average and 28 points above the state. Fourth grade English Language Arts is equally impressive, with 87.5% of students scoring proficient, outpacing the district by nearly 16 points. The school also excels with female students (89th percentile) and Hispanic students (top 20% statewide).

When compared to nearby schools, Reeves' performance is striking. Just 1.76 miles away, Knightsville Elementary trails by 33 points in 5th grade math, while Newington Elementary and Flowertown Elementary—both in the same district—lag by more than 40 and 28 points respectively in key subjects. Even Beech Hill Elementary, which holds a slightly higher overall ranking, falls behind Reeves in 5th grade math. The school also achieves these results efficiently, spending $12,247 per student—thousands less than nearby schools like Summerville Elementary ($16,175) and James H. Spann Elementary ($16,092). While 4th grade science (59.4%) offers room for growth, Reeves' consistent excellence in core subjects and its proven ability to close achievement gaps make it a standout choice for families.

Open Quote Both of my children attend this school and I couldn't be happier. My son is so smart and they challange him all the time. My daughter has speech problems and because of being born with a thyroid problem she isn't as advanced as children her own age. However, the school has given her a lot of help and I am amazed at how far she has come in just the first half of the year! She went into K5 not really putting together whole sentences and now she is having full conversations! I am so proud of my children and am very happy with the school they are in. Close Quote
