Charleston Progressive is a small, downtown Charleston elementary school (PK-5) serving 184 students in the Charleston 01 district, and it has become one of the most improved schools in the area over the past few years.

This school tells a remarkable story of turnaround. Just a few years ago, it ranked in the bottom 10% of South Carolina elementary schools, but by the 2025-2026 school year it climbed to the 57th percentile statewide—a jump of over 280 spots in three years. That momentum is especially visible in early-grade reading: 3rd and 4th grade English Language Arts proficiency (68.9% and 70%) now meets or beats both district and state averages.
