The school also struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 19.3% to 28.7% over the past few years, which is much higher than the state average.

When compared to other middle schools in the area, Leavelle McCampbell Middle generally underperforms. For instance, the nearby New Ellenton STEAM Magnet Middle and Paul Knox Middle both outperform Leavelle McCampbell Middle in academic proficiency, with higher rankings and star ratings from SchoolDigger. The school's high rates of poverty, with 54.92% to 72.56% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, may be a contributing factor to its relatively low performance. By addressing these challenges and implementing effective interventions, Leavelle McCampbell Middle has the potential to improve student outcomes and better serve the Graniteville community.
