Summary:

Zip code 02857 has six schools—two elementary, two middle and two high schools—with 2,468 students across the Foster-Glocester, Scituate and Glocester districts; enrollment ranges from 238 to 869. Overall, the schools are performing above state figures in most reported subjects, but recent results are mostly declining: all six are above the state in ELA, while five of six are above in math and science, and average two-year changes are down in all three subjects.

Fogarty Memorial is the strongest elementary school in these comparisons, ahead of North Scituate School by 11.3 percentage points in ELA, 15.6 in math and 11.8 in fifth-grade science. The high-school results favor Ponaganset High School, which leads Scituate High School by 9.1 points in 11th-grade SAT ELA and 14.9 in SAT math. The middle schools are nearly tied in ELA, but Scituate Middle School leads Ponaganset Middle School by 5.8 points in math and 5.7 in science. Some grade-level results diverge from schoolwide patterns: Ponaganset Middle’s eighth-grade math is 9.3 points below the state, while North Scituate’s fifth-grade ELA is 0.7 points below.

Recent changes and SchoolDigger rankings add important context: from 2024–25 to 2025–26, science fell at five schools, and average results declined by 7.6 points in science, 6.9 in ELA and 3.2 in math. From 2023–24 to 2025–26, SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking percentile rose four points for Ponaganset High, but fell for the other five, including 23 points for North Scituate and 13 for Ponaganset Middle. Smaller ratios do not consistently align with higher scores: Scituate High has 10.7 students per teacher versus 12.7 at Ponaganset High, despite Ponaganset’s stronger test results. Across the schools, free/reduced-lunch rates range from 17.61% to 25.25%. Both high schools have strong graduation rates—96.2% at Ponaganset and 95.1% at Scituate, compared with 85.5% statewide.
