Scituate

The Scituate public-school district in Rhode Island has five schools serving elementary through high school: North Scituate School, Hope School and Clayville School at the elementary level, plus Scituate Middle School and Scituate High School. The clearest area-wide strength is elementary math: the three schools averaged 48.5% proficient, 16.6 percentage points above the state’s 31.9%.

Hope School stands out in elementary ELA and math, leading with 43.5% and 57.0% proficient; its math result was 17.6 points above North Scituate School, the lowest of the three in that subject at 39.4%. North Scituate leads elementary science at 41.3%, while Clayville School is lowest at 29.2%, 1.9 points below the state. Results vary by subject: Clayville, for example, is second in math but last in science. At the next levels, Scituate Middle and High are above the state in each latest reported subject comparison. High school graduation is also strong at 95.1%, versus 85.5% statewide.

Recent results show mixed movement, with science the clearest concern: elementary science proficiency fell at all three schools from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, by an average of 10.2 points. Hope’s ELA and math rose 4.4 and 8.1 points, respectively, even as its science score fell 6.7; Clayville’s science decline was largest, at 16.3 points. SchoolDigger’s ranking percentile rose for Hope from 51st in 2023–2024 to 75th, while North Scituate fell from 84th to 61st. Among the elementary schools, Hope also has the lowest student–teacher ratio, 10.1, and highest reported free/reduced-lunch rate, 25.77%; these are descriptive context, not explanations of results. Scituate High’s SchoolDigger percentile declined from 72nd to 60th, despite its high graduation rate, and its grade 11 SAT ELA result fell 16.5 points while remaining above the state.
