Summary:
Scituate has three elementary schools: North Scituate School, Hope School and Clayville School. All serve grades 3–5, while Clayville also serves prekindergarten. In 2025–26, their average proficiency was above state results in English, math and science, and math was the clearest shared strength: the schools averaged 48.5%, compared with 31.9% statewide.
Hope stands out in English and especially math, while North Scituate leads in science. Hope’s all-grades proficiency was 43.5% in English and 57.0% in math; its math result was 25.1 percentage points above the state and 12.7 points above the other two schools’ average. North Scituate had the lowest English and math results, at 35.7% and 39.4%, respectively, though both were still above state results. In science, North Scituate led with 41.3%, about 10 points above the other schools’ average; Clayville was lowest at 29.2%, slightly below the state’s 31.1%. Grade-level results add useful detail: Clayville led grade 3 math at 73.3%, but was lowest in grade 4 math at 30.0%, while Hope reached 53.8% in that grade.
Recent changes differ by subject and school rather than showing a single area-wide trend: from 2024–25, the three-school average rose 2.6 points in English, edged up 0.4 in math and fell 10.2 in science. Hope’s English and math results rose 4.4 and 8.1 points, while its science result fell 6.7; Clayville’s science dropped 16.3 points. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings also moved in different directions from 2023–24 to 2025–26: Hope rose from 51 to 75, North Scituate fell from 84 to 61, and Clayville declined from 77 to 67. Hope has the lowest student-teacher ratio, 10.1, compared with 14 at North Scituate; reported free/reduced-lunch rates are fairly close, ranging from 22.14% to 25.77%. These figures provide context, not an explanation for school results.
