Bristol Warren has five schools serving elementary, middle and high school grades, with 2,504 students across the area. In the latest results, the four K–8 schools averaged 49.7% proficiency in ELA, 46.1% in math and 52.6% in science, all above Rhode Island rates of 33.1%, 31.9% and 31.1%. The most important finding for families is that results vary by subject and school: Colt Andrews School leads elementary ELA and math, while Rockwell School leads in science.
Colt Andrews School has the highest elementary all-grades ELA and math rates, at 58.1% and 53.8%; these are 10.6 and 8.7 percentage points above the averages of the other two elementary schools. Rockwell School leads elementary science at 61.5%, 13.9 points above the other elementary schools’ average. At the lower end, Hugh Cole School has the lowest elementary ELA and math rates, 44.3% and 41.0%; across the K–8 schools, Kickemuit Middle School has the lowest all-grades math rate, 40.3%. Mt. Hope High School is above state rates on each reported test, including 77.7% in 11th-grade SAT ELA versus 47.8% statewide.
Recent results are mixed rather than showing one area-wide direction: the four K–8 schools’ average ELA and math rates fell 2.1 and 2.6 points from the prior year, while their science average rose 2.0 points. Individual changes differ: Colt Andrews School rose 4.0 points in ELA and 6.8 in math, while Rockwell School fell 6.2 and 16.1 points in those subjects.
