Summary

Iroquois Elementary School is a public elementary school in Erie, Pennsylvania, serving 543 students in grades PK-6 and part of the Iroquois School District. The school consistently outperforms the state average in PSSA Math and English Language Arts (ELA) assessments, with 52.3% of students proficient or better in Math compared to the state average of 41.7%. Iroquois Elementary also ranks in the top 43% of Pennsylvania elementary schools, demonstrating strong academic performance.

One of the school's key strengths is its support for low socioeconomic status (SES) students, ranking 309 out of 1,369 Pennsylvania elementary schools in this subgroup. This is particularly impressive given that Iroquois Elementary has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, reaching 100% in recent years. The school's higher spending per student ($14,893 in 2022-2023) compared to the state average may contribute to its success in supporting its disadvantaged student population.

While Iroquois Elementary outperforms nearby schools in the Erie City School District, such as Pfeiffer-Burleigh School and Edison Elementary School, it lags behind the higher-performing schools in the Harbor Creek School District, including Clark Elementary School and Rolling Ridge Elementary School. Nevertheless, Iroquois Elementary's consistent 3-star rating from SchoolDigger over the years demonstrates its ability to provide a stable and reliable academic program for its students.

Open Quote The Iroquois School District is improving very quickly. Their SPP scores (School Performance Profile) have shown a major improvement. The budget cuts that hit ISD hard have now been overcome. There are many new administrators in the district and a supportive school board. The district continues to be a cost effective provider of a quality education for residents of the district. Close Quote

Open Quote With cut backs in funding, the class sizes have become too large, due to downsizing of qualified teachers. There was a shifting of teachers to classes that they are not necessarily qualified to teach, and the children/students are the ones left without a quality education. When the administration was asked about a plan to correct this situation, no follow up was given.
I would not recommend moving to this school district. In fact we are looking to take our student out of this terrible situation! Close Quote
