Summary

KIPP North Philadelphia Charter School is an elementary school serving 670 students in grades K-8 in Philadelphia, PA. The school is part of the KIPP North Philadelphia Charter School District, which is ranked 599 out of 606 districts in Pennsylvania and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, KIPP North Philadelphia Charter School has consistently ranked in the bottom 10% of Pennsylvania elementary schools over the past 4 years.

The school's academic performance is a major concern, with only 4.4% of students proficient or better in Math and 12.1% proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to state averages of 41.7% and 48.5% respectively. This poor performance extends across all grade levels and student subgroups, including females, males, and students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Even when compared to nearby traditional public schools, which also struggle academically, KIPP North Philadelphia Charter School still underperforms.

Despite spending significantly more per student than the state average, the higher spending has not translated to improved academic outcomes. Additionally, the student-teacher ratio at KIPP North Philadelphia has increased from 14 to 15.5 in recent years, which is higher than the nearby traditional public schools. While the nearby charter schools have slightly lower dropout rates, KIPP North Philadelphia does not report this data. Overall, the evidence suggests KIPP North Philadelphia Charter School faces significant challenges in providing a quality education to its students and requires substantial improvements to instructional practices, resource allocation, and support for struggling student subgroups.

Open Quote I'm pleased with my daughter's performance here for the past 3 years. She's attended since first grade and has become an avid reader and confident leader. The staff do their best to address issues that arise. Pre-pandemic they included bus monitors. It's a family atmosphere and there's an open door policy. The classrooms are super clean and spaced out with each student having their barrier, water bottle, crate for belongings and foam square to sit on during circle time. The admin and teachers do their best to add content that reflect the children's culture. Offering yoga and music is also a plus.
The only minus is the after-care staff seemed to be more engaged with chatting with each other than monitoring the children. Close Quote
