About the Smarter Balanced Assessments: In 2010, the State Board of Education adopted more rigorous instructional standards in English and Math. Over the past five years, educators across the state have worked together to implement these standards in every K-12 classroom in Oregon. The standards are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need at every step along their educational journey so they can graduate high school fully prepared for success in college and the workplace. In order to assess how well students are mastering these higher standards, the state is using new statewide tests known as Smarter Balanced.

Open Quote Llewellyn is overcrowded. We have about 550 kids this year. Each year since we've had our child there, the incoming classes of Kindergarteners have been huge. Temporary classrooms are being used outside of the building to house several classes. Overcrowding creates problems in nearly every area of learning, as well as the social aspect at recess. There are not enough eyes to prevent bullying out on the field. It's unfortunate that this is our current situation because the school is quite lovely with strong teachers and solid leadership. About Student-Teacher Ratio
Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
