Summary

North Powder Charter School is an alternative public charter school serving 256 students in grades K-12 in North Powder, Oregon, as part of the North Powder School District 8J. The school focuses on providing a personalized and flexible learning environment for its students.

North Powder Charter School has seen strong graduation rates, with a 4-year graduation rate of 81.8% in 2023-2024 and 100% in the previous two years, outpacing the state average. However, the school has struggled with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 15.3% to 38.1% in recent years. Academically, the school's test scores on the OSAS assessments are generally on par with or slightly above the district and state averages in English Language Arts and Mathematics, though there are some grade levels where the school's performance lags behind, particularly in Mathematics. Approximately 40% of North Powder Charter School's students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a relatively high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

When compared to the nearby Cove Charter School and Baker Web Academy, North Powder Charter School generally performs on par or slightly better in terms of test scores and graduation rates. However, Cove Charter School has lower chronic absenteeism and a lower percentage of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch. North Powder Charter School's focus on personalized learning and flexible instruction may be contributing to its relatively strong graduation rates, despite some challenges with test scores and chronic absenteeism. The school should continue to address these areas of concern to ensure all students are receiving a high-quality education.

Open Quote My children graduated from NP and received an excellent education in all areas except for science. It has been weak for over 20 years. When going to college it is as if there was no science. All other academic areas and teachers are excellent. This school and the students are very accepting of those that are different or unique. Excellent college prep. Close Quote
