Summary:

Central Point School District 6 serves about 4,773 students across nine schools in southern Oregon's Central Point and Gold Hill communities: six elementary schools (grades K–5, plus one K–2 and one K–8), two middle schools (6–8), and one high school (9–12). Enrollment is very uneven — Crater High School alone holds 1,454 students (30.5% of the district), while Rogue Primary School has just 154. Poverty levels are nearly identical from school to school: eight of the nine report free/reduced-price lunch between 78.4% and 80.1%, with only Patrick Elementary School standing apart at 97.65%.

Sams Valley Elementary School is the district's clear standout — its only elementary rated 3 stars and the only one ranking in the top third of Oregon elementaries. It beats the state in English language arts, math, and science, with math proficiency of 45.0% against a district rate of 26.1%. The most telling comparison is with Jewett Elementary School: the two serve nearly the same poverty level, yet Sams Valley leads by 13.8 points in ELA and 22.7 points in math. Crater High School is the district's other 3-star school, graduating 87.8% of students (above the state's 83.0%) and posting 54.8% ELA proficiency — but its 15.1% math proficiency is the lowest in the district.

District-wide, only a handful of school-subject results beat the state, and math is the systemic weakness — 6.8 points behind state overall and 13.5 points behind at 3rd grade, where ELA is also 13.5 points back. Attendance is a bright spot: every school with a reported rate sits below the state's 33.5% chronic absenteeism. Improvement is clearly possible — Central Point Elementary School climbed from the 18th to the 40th percentile in two years and Hanby Middle School from the 31st to the 47th, both without meaningful changes in poverty. Meanwhile Patrick Elementary School declined from the 36th to the 20th percentile despite the district's highest per-student spending, and Jewett Elementary School and Richardson Elementary School remain low-performing.
