Summary:

Whitebead has one school, Whitebead Public School, serving prekindergarten through eighth grade, with 294 students. Since it is the only school in the area, there is no school-to-school comparison; its school and district proficiency figures are identical. In 2025–2026, results showed a clear contrast across subjects, but the most important concern is mathematics: 15% of students were proficient, compared with 25% statewide.

Whitebead Public School’s strongest showing was science, with 44% proficient in 2025–2026 versus 30% statewide. Its all-grades ELA result was weaker, at 21% versus 26% statewide, though seventh-grade ELA was a bright spot: 36% proficient compared with 23% statewide. Math was below the state in every reported grade, with the sharpest gap in fourth grade: 6% proficient versus 33% statewide. These results point to science and seventh-grade ELA as relative strengths, while math is the clearest area of concern.

Results shifted from above to roughly level with the state when averaged across the three subjects: in 2024–2025, Whitebead’s simple subject average was 32% versus 27% statewide; in 2025–2026, both rounded to 27%. The school’s average fell 5 points, while the state’s was essentially unchanged. ELA fell from 32% to 21%, while science slipped from 47% to 44% and remained above the state. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking also declined, from 296th of 614 schools (52nd percentile, 3 stars) to 460th of 626 (27th percentile, 1 star). As context, 66% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–2025, and the student–teacher ratio was 10.4 that year; chronic absenteeism in 2025–2026 was 19%, compared with 16% statewide.
