Summary:
Stonewall has three schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12: Stonewall Elementary School (PK–4), McLish Middle School (grades 5–8) and Stonewall High School (grades 9–12). Their listed enrollment totals 422 students. In 2025–2026, the schools’ simple average in mathematics was 40%, compared with 25% statewide; their average in ELA was 29%, compared with 26% statewide. The most important finding is that the overall math strength hides a sharp divide: elementary and middle are above the state, while high school is well below it.
Stonewall Elementary School stands out in ELA and mathematics, with 38% proficient in ELA (12 points above the state) and 65% in math (40 points above). McLish Middle School is also strong in math at 46% (21 points above the state) and leads the two schools reporting science, with 46% proficient versus 17% at the high school. Stonewall High School has the lowest ELA and math results: 22% in ELA (4 points below the state) and 10% in math (15 points below). It is also below the state in science and U.S. History; its U.S. History result is 31%, versus 41% statewide. Because schools serve different grade spans, all-grades results are not fully like-for-like comparisons.
Recent results show math improving while ELA declined at all three schools. From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, math rose 12 points at Stonewall Elementary School, 6 at McLish Middle School and 3 at Stonewall High School; ELA fell 5, 11 and 5 points, respectively. SchoolDigger ranks McLish 66th of 378 middle schools, at the 83rd percentile with four stars; the high school ranks 339th of 462, at the 27th percentile with one star. Other measures add context: the high school’s 2024–2025 student-teacher ratio was 8.2, lower than elementary’s 13.2 and middle’s 14.5, while its test results were lowest. All three schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025: 88% at elementary, 84% at middle and 83% at high school. The high school also reported a 90% graduation rate in 2024–2025, compared with 78% statewide, and 0% chronic absenteeism in 2025–2026, compared with 16% statewide; these are different measures and years from the test results.
