Summary:
Stonewall’s three public schools serve grades PK–12 and enroll 422 students: Stonewall Elementary (PK–4), McLish Middle (5–8) and Stonewall High (9–12). The 2025–2026 results show a wide spread between schools, especially in math: elementary students had the strongest reported rate, while the high school had the weakest. The clearest academic concern is high-school proficiency, particularly its 10% math result.
Stonewall Elementary leads the reported all-grades results in ELA (38%) and math (65%), 10 and 19 points above the next-highest school, respectively; both rates also exceed state results by 12 and 40 points. McLish Middle leads the two schools reporting science, at 46%—29 points above the high school and 16 above the state. By contrast, Stonewall High is below the state in all four reported subjects, including ELA by 4 points, math by 15, science by 13 and U.S. History by 10. Grade-level results add a bright spot: McLish eighth-grade math is 54%, 37 points above the state, and elementary third-grade math is 57%, 24 points above.
Recent results are mixed: math rose from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 at all three schools—by 12 points at elementary, 6 at McLish and 3 at the high school—while ELA fell by 5, 11 and 5 points, respectively. McLish’s SchoolDigger ranking history also shifted, from the 34th percentile in 2020–2021 to the 97th in 2024–2025, then the 83rd in 2025–2026. The high school combines low proficiency with a 90% graduation rate, 12 points above the state. In 2024–2025, student-teacher ratios were 13.2 at elementary, 14.5 at McLish and 8.2 at the high school; free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 88%, 84% and 83%, respectively. These measures provide context but do not explain the differences in test results.
