Summary:

Pond Creek-Hunter has two schools serving pre-K through grade 8 and grades 9–12, with 200 students at Pond Creek-Hunter Elementary School and 109 at Pond Creek-Hunter High School. In 2025–2026, results were mixed by subject: both schools were above state proficiency in English Language Arts and science, but their mathematics scores diverged sharply. The most important finding is that elementary math was above the state rate, while high-school math was well below it.

The elementary school stands out in mathematics at 34%, 9 percentage points above the state’s 25%; the high school scored 12%, 13 points below the state and 22 points below the elementary school. The same concern appears in 11th grade, where high-school math was 12% versus 17% statewide. The high school leads in ELA, with 47% proficient compared with 36% at the elementary school and 26% statewide. Science results were nearly level—36% at the elementary school and 35% at the high school—and both exceeded the state’s 30%. The high school also had 46% proficiency in U.S. History, 5 points above the state, and a reported 2024–2025 graduation rate of 100%, versus 78% statewide.

Some results improved year over year: elementary science rose from 18% in 2024–2025 to 36% in 2025–2026, moving from 12 points below the state to 6 points above it. The high school’s SchoolDigger ranking also improved, from 202nd of 432 schools (53rd percentile) in 2023–2024 to 103rd of 462 (78th percentile) in 2025–2026. The elementary school’s student-teacher ratio was 14.9, compared with 14.0 at the high school. Both schools report free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025: 58% at the elementary school and 49% at the high school. These figures describe different school contexts, not causes of academic results.
