The Newkirk area has three schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12, with 743 students enrolled: Newkirk Elementary School (PK–5), Newkirk Middle School (6–8) and Newkirk High School (9–12). The biggest difference among them is in mathematics: elementary students scored 56% in the 2025–2026 all-grades results, compared with 22% at Middle and 6% at High, a 50-point spread from top to bottom.
Newkirk Elementary stands out overall, leading in English Language Arts I (ELA I) at 39% and mathematics at 56%, and tying Middle in science at 32%. Its mathematics result is 31 points above the state’s 25%; its ELA I result is 13 points above the state’s 26%. Newkirk High has the weakest all-grades mathematics and science results, at 6% and 15%; both are below the state results of 25% and 30%. High also scored 22% in U.S. History, 19 points below the state. Newkirk Middle has a notable exception: seventh-grade math was 44%, 18 points above the state, while eighth-grade math was 3%, 14 points below.
Recent results show improvement at some schools but not all: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, Elementary rose 13 points in ELA I and 14 in mathematics, while Middle fell 7 points in ELA I and 8 in science. SchoolDigger rates Elementary 4 stars (85th percentile), Middle 2 stars (38th percentile) and High 1 star (17th percentile) for 2025–2026. In 2024–2025, student–teacher ratios were fairly close, from 14.9 at Elementary to 15.7 at High. That year’s reported free/reduced lunch eligible measures were 65% at Elementary, 64% at Middle and 53% at High; these figures provide context, not an explanation for achievement differences.
