Open Quote So I worked with Our Lady of Peace for 2 1/2 years. The pastor, more than likely to make himself looks good, made the school into an uncontrollable "mission school," however it is anything but. Mission means you bring the faith to other people. This school water downs Catholicism so far until it is hardly recognizable. The main goal of the school is to teach the children how to act in a somewhat civilized manner so they don't end up as part of Canton's outrageous crime rate problem. However they coddle the kids as they are more focused on their psychological "trauma" then actually teaching them to be decent people. If a child constantly interrupts a class due to their poor or outlandish behavior, it is on the teacher to be more understanding of the child than for the student to stop the behavior "or else." I had one child that would constantly hit the lockers in the back of the room during class even after being told repeatedly to stop. The last year I was there I had a child who would scream, yes scream, repeatedly in my classroom. When I said something about how distracting this was to the other children and to my lessons I was told by the Monseigneur that I needed to be "more understanding," and that I "always seemed to have a child in my class that I didn't get along with." For months the Monseigneur didn't talk to me about my class and he NEVER observed my classroom. I was called into his office a half an hour before school let out for Christmas break. I was told that I was constantly asking for a resource worker to come into my class (which I did not, she just came in without asking me about it) and that my students grades were down! He never tried to work with me and fired me OUTSIDE of my contract at a moment's notice. After my horrible experience at OLP they dared to give ME a bad reference for a teaching job a few years after working there, although I had references FROM THEIR RESOURCE PERSON and a fellow teacher saying otherwise. I wouldn't touch this school as a teacher since they treat you like crap, as a parent since your child isn't going to get a real education there, or as anyone who wants to be part of a system that is made to fluff up Monseigneur's ego. This is a horrible school to work for and it is an insult to what Catholic education should be. Close Quote
