Summary

Wadsworth Middle School is a 606-student building serving grades 7 and 8 in Wadsworth, Ohio, a suburban community southwest of Akron, and it is one of two middle-level schools in the Wadsworth City district, alongside Wadsworth Intermediate School, which enrolls the same 606 students in grades 5–6 about a mile away. A consistent high performer, the school ranked 145th of 1,046 Ohio middle schools in 2025–26 — the 86th percentile — after two consecutive 5-star years at the 91st percentile.

Test scores remain well above the state average in every subject. In 2025–26, 8th-grade English language arts ran 22.8 points above the state and 8th-grade math 20.9 points above, with science and 7th-grade ELA each about 20 points ahead. Algebra I is a signature strength: four straight years at 100% proficient, versus 76.5–82% across the district and 53–61.6% statewide. Among nearby schools, Wadsworth placed 3rd of 10 in 8th-grade math and 3rd in 8th-grade ELA, but 6th of 9 in 7th-grade math — its one clear soft spot. That single measure, down from 75.4% to 60.9%, largely explains the school's slip from 5 stars to 4. Parents may also notice a district handoff pattern: the same cohort that scored 72.7% in 6th-grade math at the Intermediate School scored 60.9% as 7th graders here, while its ELA scores rose over the same transition.

Other indicators are moving in the right direction. Chronic absenteeism fell from 20.0% to 13.3% in one year — now below the district's 16.1%, though still above nearby Northwest Middle School (5.2%) and Copley-Fairlawn Middle School (10.1%). Special education students improved from the 63rd to the 85th percentile statewide over two years, an improvement that ran against the overall trend. The school also produces these results at the lowest per-pupil spending in its comparison group ($6,604, based on 2018–19 figures), roughly 45% less than Copley-Fairlawn. One watch item: 8th-grade science has declined for four straight years, from 85.0 to 79.7.
