Barberton City

Barberton City is an Ohio district with four schools serving students from kindergarten through 12th grade: Barberton Primary School (K–2), Barberton Intermediate School (3–5), Barberton Middle School (5–8), and Barberton High School (9–12). Reported enrollments total 3,253, though grade 5 appears at both the intermediate and middle schools, so some fifth graders may be counted twice. The Barberton City district is rated 569 of 773 districts — 26th percentile, 1 star.

The most striking finding is how differently the same grade performs at different schools. In 2025–2026, Barberton Middle's 5th graders far outpaced Barberton Intermediate's 5th graders: 90.9% vs 34.9% in science, 72.1% vs 28.1% in math, and 86.4% vs 54.5% in English language arts. Barberton Middle is also exceptional in Algebra I, at 98% versus the state's 61.6%, while the high school's Algebra I is 50.3%. Middle school results in grades 6–8 are mostly below state, however, such as 8th grade math at 29.6% versus 52%.

Barberton Intermediate has the weakest results, with every reported test below state and a rank drop from 39th percentile with 2 stars to 26th percentile with 1 star. Barberton High is stronger in social studies and English — American Government 80.8% vs 71.6% and English II 64.4% vs 62.7% — but weaker in math, with Geometry at 33.3% vs 43.3%. Its graduation rate is 89.8% and chronic absenteeism is 37.2%, above the district's 34.1%. Barberton Primary has the lowest absenteeism at 28.8% but, serving K–2, has no state test scores here, and its free/reduced lunch rate is unknown.
