Summary

Mason Intermediate Elementary School is a public school serving grades 3–6 at 6307 S Mason Montgomery Rd in Mason, Ohio (Warren County), with 3,086 students — the largest school in its comparison set and roughly five times the size of a typical neighboring elementary. It belongs to the Mason City district, which ranks 37th of 773 Ohio districts. Because it is effectively the district's only provider for grades 3–6, its test scores are identical to the district's, so there is no in-district school to compare it against.

Academically, proficiency runs 18 to 30 points above the state in every tested grade and subject, with the widest gaps in mathematics. Against nearby schools the picture is more mixed than the district's reputation suggests: Independence Elementary School (Lakota Local) posts higher proficiency in seven of nine comparable measures and has outranked Mason Intermediate at the school level for three straight years, despite nearly identical poverty rates and one-fifth the enrollment. Kings Mills Elementary School (Kings Local) and Symmes Elementary School (Sycamore Community City) also edge it in a few grades, while Mason Intermediate leads every measure against higher-poverty neighbors such as Woodland Elementary School and Adena Elementary School. Chronic absenteeism is 7.0%, second-best in the peer group. A small accelerated math cohort reaches 100% proficiency on Algebra I and 8th-grade math — a sign of a strong pathway, not whole-school performance.

Results are strong across most student groups, but not uniform: students with disabilities rank around the 66th percentile statewide with 3 stars, a figure that has declined over five reporting years, and low-income students sit at the 79th–84th percentile — solid, but below the school's overall standing. The school has earned 5 stars for ten consecutive years, though its statewide rank has eased from the 32nd–54th range (97th–98th percentile) in 2015–2019 to 97th–124th (92nd–94th percentile) recently. Smaller watch items include a three-year slide in 5th-grade science and a slight drift in 6th-grade English. Spending was $10,299 per student, less than several neighboring schools with weaker results.

Open Quote This school district allows the parents to choose the teachers. Many teachers work in teams, one teaching math and science, the other teaching social studies and language. This means that the teachers are more specialized in their subjects. I like that all the kids in the district are going to the same school by 4th grade, and the bussing allows that students aren't on the bus with grades much higher or lower than their own grade.
