Summary

Symmes Elementary School is a public school in Loveland, Ohio, serving about 656 students in grades PK–4 as part of the Sycamore Community City district. In 2025–26 it ranked 108th of 1,560 Ohio elementary schools—93rd percentile, 5 stars—and the district ranks 38th of 773 statewide. Symmes has earned 5 stars in most years since 2015–16, with a one-year dip to 4 stars (85th percentile) in 2023–24 before rebounding.

Test scores are well above Ohio averages. In 2025–26, math proficiency was 81.8% in grade 3, 92.7% in grade 4, and 100% in grade 5; ELA was 80.6% in grade 3 and 86.3% in grade 4—about 17 to 41 points above state averages. Symmes also outperforms most nearby non-district schools, often by wide margins; in 4th-grade math, for example, it posted 92.7% versus Stewart Elementary School's 56.2%. Within Sycamore, however, Montgomery Elementary School and Maple Dale Elementary School score higher in most tested grades (Montgomery's ELA 4 was 92.2% and Maple Dale's 94.8%, versus Symmes' 86.3%). Symmes' weakest area relative to its district is grade-3 ELA, 5.7 points below the district average.

Chronic absenteeism is a standout at 4.7% in 2025–26, down from 9.4% in 2022–23 and well below the district's 9.3%. Symmes also has the lowest student-teacher ratio (15.4) among the nearby schools listed, plus per-pupil spending of $12,972. Its free/reduced-price lunch rate has risen from 15.3% to 26.5% in three years—higher than Montgomery and Maple Dale (about 14%) but far below Stewart (62.8%). Effectiveness rankings vary by student group: very high for English Language Learner, gifted, and most demographic groups, but lower for special education and low-income students, so the school's top-decile overall results aren't uniform across all groups. Families comparing within Sycamore should note that Montgomery and Maple Dale have higher measured academic rankings, while Symmes stands out for smaller classes, strong attendance, and solid results with a more economically diverse enrollment.

Open Quote Students at Symmes Elementary Schools are taught in such a way that Organizational, Study, Reading and Writing skills influence methodical learning noticed in math, science and civilization courses.
Sycamore and Symmes Teachers give grade appropriate homework that is corrected and provides re-direction and coaching for their students further learning.
Tiered ESL program is BEAUTIFULLY constructed, in such a way that, guest students from other countries quickly learn English without feeling stressed and are integrated into mainstream courses, which encourages further comprehension and fluency of the English Language. Addtionally, native English speakers have an increased vocabulary spoken to them by their Teachers everyday so that their language skills are stretched.
Lastly, Administration and Teachers REALLY like the students. Follow up to expectations is continuously reinforced. Transparency is provided through: meetings, websites, face to face contact and in written form! Close Quote
