Antwerp Local Elementary School is a PK–5 school serving 345 students in Antwerp, a small community in rural northwest Ohio, and it is part of the Antwerp Local district. In 2025–26 it ranked 393rd of 1,560 Ohio elementary schools — the 75th percentile, or 4 stars — after peaking at 91st percentile and 5 stars in 2023–24 and settling at 76th percentile in 2024–25. About 11.3% of students were chronically absent, and the student-teacher ratio was 13.5 in 2024–25.

Math and English language arts are the school’s strengths. Averaged across grades 3–5, math proficiency is about 83% versus a state average of about 63%, and ELA is about 80% versus about 65%. Fourth-grade math (89.7%) and fifth-grade math (84.8%) are well above state, and fifth-grade ELA (82.6%) tops Oakwood Elementary School, Edgerton Elementary School, Crestview Elementary School, Grover Hill Elementary School, Paulding Elementary School, and Payne Elementary School. Science is the clear gap: fifth-grade science is 58.7% versus the state’s 62.7%, below most nearby schools, after a strong 85.2% in 2023–24. Overall, Antwerp outperforms Paulding and Payne in most subjects and is competitive with Crestview, Fairview Elementary School, and Grover Hill in ELA, but trails Hicksville Elementary School, Oakwood, and Edgerton, largely because of science and some math gaps.

Two things are worth watching. Chronic absenteeism improved dramatically from 30.1% in 2021–22 to 7.3% in 2023–24, but has risen since to 10.5% and then 11.3% — higher than almost every nearby school, though similar to Payne and slightly better than the district. Performance for low-income students has also slipped from 93rd percentile (5 stars) in 2023–24 to about 68th percentile (3 stars). On the plus side, class sizes are favorable at 13.5 students per teacher, better than Paulding, Fairview, Edgerton, and Oakwood, and per-student spending of $9,653 in 2018–19 was among the lowest nearby.
