Summary

Groveport Madison Middle School Central is a grades 6–8 school at 751 Main St in Groveport, Ohio, serving 489 students in the Groveport Madison Local district just southeast of Columbus. It ranks in the 48th percentile of Ohio middle schools—well above its district’s 24th percentile—and leads its sibling schools, Groveport Madison Middle School North (31st) and Groveport Madison Middle School South (27th). Central also has the lowest chronic absenteeism in the district at 23.3%, down 14.5 points in four years and below North (32.7%) and South (38.6%). It serves a high-poverty population: 99.4% of students were economically disadvantaged in 2023–24.

Academically, Central beats the district average in all nine reported subject/grade measures and tops the state average in five. Its gains since 2023–24 are broad: math and English language arts proficiency rose sharply in most grades, while 8th grade science is the main soft spot and the only subject that did not improve. Sixth grade is the weakest point relative to the state, but by 7th and 8th grade the school is at or above state averages—a pattern suggesting students make substantial progress during their three years there. End-of-course Algebra I and American History proficiency is excellent, though it reflects small advanced-track cohorts. Several student groups, including English language learners, low-income students and students in special education, rank above the school’s overall percentile.

Compared with nearby Canal Winchester Middle School, a larger, better-staffed school with lower absenteeism, Central trails in most general tests—but the gap narrows to 4.3 points in 8th grade math and 2.3 points in 8th grade ELA. Central also outperforms several Columbus City Schools District schools such as Buckeye Middle School, Sherwood Middle School, Yorktown Middle School and Baldwin Road Junior High School, despite spending less per student in the one reported year. The main things to watch are 6th grade readiness, 8th grade science, and a student–teacher ratio that rose to 19.1:1 in 2024–25.
