Summary

David Anderson Junior/Senior High School is a 387-student school serving grades 6 through 12 in the small town of Lisbon, Ohio, in Columbiana County, and it is the only secondary school in the Lisbon Exempted Village district.

There is real good news here. Chronic absenteeism has fallen from 57.6% in 2021–22 to 22.6% in 2025–26 — a 35-percentage-point improvement that gives the school the fourth-lowest rate among the ten nearby schools. The graduation rate is 95.9%, up 8.9 points since 2022–23, and higher than Salem High School and Leetonia Junior/Senior High School. Grades 6 and 7 are a genuine bright spot: 6th grade math (66.7%) and 7th grade math (58.3%) both beat the state by about 10 points, and 8th grade ELA (60.7%) is above state as well. Gifted students rank at the 58th percentile — roughly double the school's overall standing — and low-income and special-education students also rank above the school as a whole.

The central problem is mathematics in the upper grades. Algebra I proficiency is 32.3% against a state mark of 61.6%, and Geometry is 25.0% against 43.3% — both the lowest among traditional high schools in the comparison group, including Columbiana High School (80.0% Algebra I, 64.9% Geometry) and South Range High School (73.9% and 70.2%). This is not a one-year dip; the pattern has held for four years, and it starts at the 8th grade transition, where math falls 21.2 points below state even as 6th and 7th grade math runs above it. About 65% of students are economically disadvantaged, but a nearby district with far greater disadvantage substantially outperforms this one, and per-pupil spending ($9,900) and class size (15.4 students per teacher) are essentially identical to better-ranked neighbors. Overall, the school ranks 583 of 795 Ohio high schools — 27th percentile, 1 star — and sits below its own district's standing.
