DeVeaux Elementary School

DeVeaux Elementary School is a K–8 school at 2620 W Sylvania Ave in Toledo, Ohio, serving 431 students — the second-largest enrollment among the Toledo City elementary schools in this comparison set. In 2025–26 it ranked 1,327th of 1,560 Ohio elementaries (15th percentile, 1 star), and it has earned 1 star in all ten years on record, from 2015–16 through 2025–26, with its percentile drifting from 27th a decade ago to 14–15th in the last two years.

On the 14 reported grade-level state tests in 2025–26, DeVeaux's average proficiency is 30.8%, versus about 29.3% for its district and about 60.1% statewide — roughly half the state rate. That single label hides wide grade-level differences. Fifth-grade ELA has been the school's anchor at 48.8%, beating the district every year, and eighth-grade math and science have climbed for four straight years (math 2.2% → 30.6%; science 4.3% → 38.9%, now above the district's 29.9%). Third-grade math, by contrast, hit just 11.9%. Chronic absenteeism is 34.1% — better than the district's 39.8%, but far above Elmhurst (14.0%) and Grove Patterson (7.8%).

The most striking comparison is with same-district neighbors: Elmhurst, half a mile away with a similar K–8 enrollment, ranks in the 71st percentile, and Grove Patterson, about a mile away, in the 77th — two to four times DeVeaux's proficiency. In its favor, DeVeaux's student-teacher ratio is a low 14.3, better than most neighbors (Longfellow is 21.4), and it reports the lowest per-student spending among Toledo City peers at $9,883 — though that figure is from 2018–19 and should be read as directional only. One caveat: poverty data (free/reduced-price lunch) is not reported for DeVeaux or its Toledo City peers, so these comparisons cannot be adjusted for student poverty.
