Lomond Elementary School in Shaker Heights, OH, is a K–5 school with 467 students in the Shaker Heights City School District, a mid-ranked Ohio district, while the school itself ranks 971st of 1,560 Ohio elementary schools (38th percentile, 2 stars) in 2025–26.

Academically, Lomond’s results are uneven. Its strongest bright spot is 4th-grade math, where it slightly exceeds both district and state results. The clearest weakness is 5th grade: in 2025–26, Lomond trailed district and state in science (38.9%), math (39.4%), and English language arts (54.2%). Those gaps are large—roughly 20–24 percentage points behind the state—and science fell sharply from 55.3% the prior year. Compared with nearby same-district schools, Fernway Elementary School (68th percentile, 3 stars) and Onaway Elementary School (70th percentile, 4 stars) substantially outperform Lomond, including in 5th-grade science, where Fernway scored 73.9% and Onaway 68.5%.

Attendance and staffing also stand out. Lomond’s chronic absenteeism rose to 21.9% in 2025–26—above the district average of 20.3% and far above Fernway (7.7%) and Onaway (10.3%). Its student-teacher ratio climbed from 16.9 to 22.2 over two years, similar to Fernway but higher than Onaway. Subgroup results show bottom-quartile performance for low-income students (22nd percentile) and special education students (28th percentile), both 1 star; this is a major equity concern. Spending does not appear to be the main explanation: Lomond spent $17,799 per student in 2018–19, more than Onaway and far more than nearby Cleveland Municipal and Warrensville Heights City schools, yet it still trails its Shaker Heights peers. Lomond remains much stronger than many neighboring urban schools, but it is the clear outlier among Shaker Heights elementaries and has work to do, especially in 5th grade and for its most vulnerable students. Lomond had been around the 47th–49th percentile from 2022–23 to 2024–25, so the 38th percentile in 2025–26 reverses earlier progress.
