It is the only high school in the Oakwood City district, a compact suburban district surrounded by the city of Dayton and within a few miles of ten other high schools. Statewide, it ranked 12th of 795 Ohio high schools in 2025–2026 and has earned a 5-star rating in every one of the ten school years on record.
Proficiency is high in every tested subject: 99.3% in Biology, 98.7% in American History, 97.8% in American Government, 95.7% in English II, 88.5% in Geometry and 85.4% in Algebra I. Against Kettering Fairmont High School (1.55 miles away, 2,445 students), Oakwood leads by 16 points in Government and History, 21 in Geometry, 23 in Biology, 26 in English II and 18 in Algebra I; against the Dayton Public high schools the gaps run 40–70 points.
