Summary

H G Blake Elementary School is a K–5 public school on Lexington Ridge Drive in Medina, OH, serving 470 students in the Medina City School District, a solidly above-average Ohio district ranked 133rd of 773. In 2025–26 Blake ranked 451st of 1,560 Ohio elementaries — 71st percentile, 4 stars — slightly below its own district's standing and fourth of the five Medina City elementaries, ahead only of Eliza Northrop Elementary.

Blake's most distinctive feature is how uneven its results are from grade to grade. Fourth grade math is its anchor: 90.0% proficient in 2025–26, a figure that has held between 89.7% and 95.3% over four years and outpaces every Medina City peer — Ralph E. Waite Elementary (84.0%), Ella Canavan Elementary School (85.9%), Sidney Fenn Elementary School (89.7%) and Northrop (78.9%). Fifth grade science (80.3%) is similarly strong, beating the state by 17.6 points and outperforming Fenn and Northrop. The clearest red flag is third grade math at 54.5%, the lowest of all nearby schools and 20.2 points below the district. Encouragingly, the cohort that scored 71.4% in third grade math rebounded to 90.0% in fourth grade, suggesting the weakness is concentrated in the early-grades transition. Fifth grade ELA (77.3%) is above state but below all four district peers.

Blake is also navigating a fast demographic shift. Its free/reduced lunch rate rose from 13.21% in 2022–23 to 36.6% in 2024–25, the highest of any Medina City elementary. Chronic absenteeism nearly doubled, from 7.7% to 13.3% — higher than every district peer (Waite 5.6%, Northrop 6.1%, Fenn 7.6%, Canavan 8.8%) — and the school's once-large attendance advantage over the district shrank from 8.9 points to 1.9. Its lowest-income students rank at the 40th percentile versus 71st overall, a 31-pointile gap. Yet Blake has the smallest student–teacher ratio in its district (16.6) and near-highest per-pupil spending ($11,775), and its overall rank recovered from the 62nd to the 71st percentile in 2025–26. Absenteeism is the metric to watch.
