Lockland Junior Senior High School

Lockland Junior Senior High School is a small public school at 249 W Forrer St in Lockland, Ohio, serving roughly 212 students in grades 7–12 and operating as the only school building in Lockland Local. It is the smallest comprehensive middle-and-high school in its immediate comparison group.

For 2025–2026, the school ranked 672 of 795 Ohio secondary schools (15th percentile, 1 star), and it has landed between the 10th and 21st percentile every year on record — persistently low, but not in decline. Test results are uneven: American Government is the one bright spot at 72.1%, slightly above the state average, and it has climbed from 40.8% to 72.1% over three years. Everything else trails the state, often by a wide margin. Geometry is the weakest at 8.3% proficient (state: 43.3%), down from 19.4%. Math and English in grades 7 and 8 sit at 28.6% or below. Still, nine of eleven tested areas improved or held steady compared with the prior year, so the school is moving forward even though its statewide rank barely budges.

Chronic absenteeism is the school's biggest structural challenge: 59.2% of students are chronically absent, down from 70.6% in 2022–2023 but still more than triple the 18.9% rate at Wyoming High School, about a mile away. Neighbors with higher poverty levels do better — Princeton High School and Reading Junior Senior High School post far lower absenteeism and stronger proficiency — and St Bernard-Elmwood Place Junior/Senior High School, a similarly sized 7–12 school with comparable spending, graduates 98.6% with 39.2% chronic absenteeism. On the positive side, Lockland's graduation rate rose to 91.7%, the highest in its five-year record, and its student-to-teacher ratio improved to 15.2.
