Summary

Huy/A.G. Bell Elementary School is a PK–5 school at 1545 Huy Rd in northeast Columbus (43224), serving 463 students as part of Columbus City Schools District. In 2025–26 it ranked 1,243rd of 1,560 Ohio elementary schools (20th percentile, 1 star) — bottom-quartile statewide, but a real upward move from the 11th percentile in 2020–21, and it has sat above its own district's 12th percentile in each of the last four years.

Among the nine nearby Columbus City elementaries, Huy/A.G. Bell Elementary School ranks second on statewide percentile, behind only Columbus Spanish Immersion K-7 School (30th percentile) and ahead of Oakland Park Alternative Elementary (19th), Como Elementary School (15th), East Linden Elementary School and Innis Elementary School (14th each), Maize Road Elementary School (12th), North Linden Elementary School (11th) and Linden STEM Academy (K-6) (4th). Average proficiency is about 39%, level with the district. Staffing is a genuine bright spot: 13.6 students per teacher, the best ratio in the cluster except Como, despite the second-largest enrollment. Chronic absenteeism has fallen from 61.5% to 47.5%, below the district's 53.8%.

Results inside the building are uneven. Fourth grade is the standout, at 56.3% in ELA and 57.1% in math — roughly 15 points above district and close to state ELA. Third grade is the opposite, 12–14 points below district and weakening three years running, so that gap likely travels upward. Fifth-grade science (37.5%) beats district; fifth-grade math (27.1%) does not. Looking at how well the school serves specific groups relative to schools statewide, African American students stand out at the 43rd percentile, and special education students rose to the 24th from the 11th. Be cautious with single-year numbers, though: cohort scores swing sharply, and the celebrated ranking of nearby Northland Preparatory and Fitness Academy comes with 69.5% chronic absenteeism and very small grade cohorts.
