Summary

East Technical High School is a grades 9–12 comprehensive high school serving 487 students, located at 2439 E 55th St on Cleveland's East Side as part of the Cleveland Municipal district. In 2025–2026 it ranked 765th of 795 Ohio high schools — the 4th percentile, at 0 stars — placing it below its own district, which ranks 689th of 773 districts statewide. Over the past decade the school has never earned a rank-history star, usually landing in the bottom 3–10% of Ohio high schools.

In 2025–2026, proficiency on Ohio State Tests was below both district and state in every subject: American Government 47.6%, American History 29.4%, Biology 17.2%, English II 21.2%, Algebra I 13.6%, and Geometry 11.2%. Among nearby district high schools — including Cleveland School of Science & Medicine, Cleveland Early College High, Cleveland School of Architecture & Design, and Cleveland High School for the Digital Arts — East Technical High School was the lowest in five of the six subjects. Its graduation rate was 63.6%, about 16 points below the district's 79.6% and the lowest among nearby district schools, which ranged from 81.4% to 100%. Chronic absenteeism was 66.7%, 12.4 points above the district.

Compared with other-district alternatives, the picture is mixed: East Technical High School beats Promise Academy and C.A.S.T.L.E High School on graduation and attendance, is higher in English II, and roughly level in American History, though it trails in Geometry and Algebra I. There are signs of improvement — graduation rose from 48.2% to 63.6% and chronic absenteeism fell from 86.1% to 66.7%, while Government proficiency climbed to 47.6% from 17.5%. Staffing has thinned, with a student-teacher ratio of 20.2 in 2024–2025, up from 14.2. Spending data is from 2018–2019 and no free/reduced-lunch figures were reported. Subgroup rankings place the school in the bottom decile for every measured group, and many nearby district schools are specialized or magnet programs with different missions, so their higher outcomes may not be directly comparable.
