Litchfield Community Learning Center is a mid-sized middle school serving about 469 students in grades 6–8 at 470 Castle Blvd in northwest Akron (44313), part of the Akron City school district. It is smaller than nearby Jennings Community Learning Center (846 students) and Innes Community Learning Center (673), but larger than Miller-South Visual Performing Arts (403) and National Inventors Hall of Fame School Center for STEM (391).

Academically, Litchfield has been remarkably consistent — and consistently low-rated. It has earned 1 star in each of the last ten reported school years, ranking 800th of 1,046 Ohio middle schools (24th percentile) in 2025–2026 and never leaving the 19th–26th percentile band. Yet within its own district it is the strongest of Akron's comprehensive middle schools, beating Innes Community Learning Center, Jennings Community Learning Center, and I Promise School on all seven core tests, and beating the district average on all seven. It still trails two same-district magnets badly: National Inventors Hall of Fame School Center for STEM (85th percentile) and Miller-South Visual Performing Arts (57th percentile), both about 3.5 miles away, outperform it by roughly 41 and 24 points of average proficiency. Suburban peers such as Revere Middle School and Copley-Fairlawn Middle School also score far higher, and the school's core average runs about 23 points below the state.

Its clearest improvement is attendance: chronic absenteeism fell from 55.6% in 2021–2022 to 40.5% in 2025–2026, dipping below the district rate for the first time. Class sizes are among the smallest in the comparison group (10.6 students per teacher), and its Algebra I results have been at or near 100% for three years — although that reflects a small accelerated group, since only 23.0% of eighth graders were proficient in Math 8. English language arts is stronger than math overall, and outcomes vary across student groups, with gifted and special education students ranking below the school's own average.
