Plain Local has two middle-level schools—Oakwood Middle School (grades 6–8, enrollment 858) and Glenwood Intermediate School (grades 5–6, enrollment 817)—in a district ranked 212 of 773 in Ohio (73rd percentile, 4 stars). Both schools beat the state in every reported test in both years. Oakwood also has a three-year school ranking history, improving from 303 of 1046 (71st percentile) in 2023–24 to 219 of 1046 (79th percentile) in 2025–26, a gain of 84 rank positions and +8 percentile points.
Oakwood stands out for advanced math end-of-course exams: Algebra I is 99% proficient and Geometry is 95.7%, far above district (76.7% and 45.9%) and state (61.6% and 43.3%). These EOCs likely reflect accelerated students rather than all 8th graders.
