Mapleton Middle School is the only middle school serving Mapleton Local in Ashland, Ohio, so it serves as both the school and the district at the middle level, enrolling about 172 students across grades 6–8 (roughly 57 per grade). Because every grade-level result rests on a few dozen test-takers, single-year percentages can swing widely, and that context matters for reading everything below.

The school's clearest strengths are in 8th grade and advanced math. Eighth-grade Science came in at 81% proficient (about 20 points above the state) and 8th-grade ELA at 79.3% (about 21 points above). Algebra I, an end-of-course exam taken by a small group of accelerated students, posted 90.9% proficient — the highest figure in the data and roughly 29 points above Ohio. Overall, the school outperformed the state in 7 of 8 reported subject-grades in 2025–2026, with the lone exception being 7th-grade ELA at 50%, about 13 points below Ohio. Two patterns are worth watching. First, both tracked student groups slipped about 5 points in both math and ELA as they advanced a grade — a modest, consistent drift rather than a sudden problem. Second, math scores are remarkably stable (roughly 50–58% across all grades and both years), while reading results swing much more, which is typical of small cohorts. The school's state ranking moved from the 71st percentile (4 stars) to the 62nd (3 stars) despite improvement in six of seven repeatable subject-grades, largely because of that one below-state 7th-grade ELA result.
