Summary

Glendale Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in the Sweet Home Central School District in Tonawanda, NY. With 434 students, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of New York elementary schools over the past 10 years, receiving a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Glendale Elementary's academic performance, as measured by state assessment proficiency rates, is generally below the district and state averages across grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's 3rd grade ELA proficiency rate was 51.67% compared to the district's 46.21% and the state's 54.15%. The school also has significant achievement gaps between student subgroups, with its African American and Hispanic students, as well as students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, performing notably worse than their white and more affluent peers on state assessments. Despite spending more per student ($26,018 in 2023-2024) compared to the district average, this does not seem to translate into stronger academic outcomes.

Within the Sweet Home Central School District, Maplemere Elementary and Heritage Heights Elementary outperform Glendale Elementary on most academic metrics. However, it is worth noting that the district as a whole is ranked relatively low (597 out of 874) among New York school districts. Glendale Elementary's low performance, particularly among its subgroups, suggests that the school could benefit from targeted interventions and support to address the achievement gaps and improve overall academic outcomes.

Open Quote This school is the best school i have ever seen. My son went there for pre-k and kindergarten and he loved it there. The teachers we very caring. My son never had a problem with other students and there seemed to be a lot of structure in that school. Since moving out of the amherst area and putting my child into a different school i have noticed a dramatic difference ...not a good one. I am now looking into moving back to the Amherst area so my son can get the Education he deserves from the Best schools & teachers you can get. Close Quote
